Doing Assignment Through Blog is Good for Students?

In this modern era, social media always support human activity anywhere and everywhere. One of the examples is in education. In Genre Based Writing, one of the subjects in fourth semester of English Department in Pekalongan University with the lecture Innayatul Ulya M.Pd, we always collect our assignment in Blog. We must post it to Blog and she will correct it.

Blog is one of social media which is use to post news, note, etc. Doing assignment in Blog also has positive and negative reasons. For positive reason, the first is we can reduce the use of paper. It helps us to save our forest. The second is it will avoid us to doing plagiarism. When we post our assignment in Blog, we will never doing plagiarism because it when someone use that our post is plagiarism, it can make us get punishment. The third is we can look it anytime and the file will be saved permanently. The fourth is we can insert picture there. When we post in Blog, sometimes we need picture to make it more understand for the reader.

The other positive reason is we can do it at home or anywhere and we can post it anywhere. It will be more efficient because we don’t need too much time. The last is it follows the development of technology and it has big capacity to publish there. When we post our assignment in Blog, it doesn’t make us tired, because we only type it and post it in Blog.

There are not only positive reason, but also has negative reason. The first is when we published it in Blog, we must correct in our grammatical pattern. The second is it is complicated for the newbie because they didn’t know how to make a Blog and how to post it. The last is it needs internet connection to post it. It is hard for students that he or she doesn’t have modem or Wi-fi in their house.

It can be seen that there are positive and negative reason for doing assignment using Blog. It can be good or bad, based on the students how to respond it. But I think that doing assignment using Blog has a lot of positive reason more than negative reason.

Why We Study at FKIP UNIKAL

University of Pekalongan or we always called as UNIKAL is one of the private university in Pekalongan. UNIKAL have many faculties such as Faculty of Law, Faculty of Batik, Faculty of Economy, Faculty of Agriculture, Health Faculty, and Teacher Training and Education Faculty.

One of its faculty is teacher training and education faculty. It is the faculty that teach the students to become a teacher in their future. This faculty has been reached B acreditation. Teacher training and education faculty have three departments, they are English Department, Mathematic Department, and Literature and Bahasa Department. Each department has their own characteristic.

First is Mathematic department, in this department you can study about how to be a good mathematic teacher. You are not only study but also you can join organization in mathematic which is name HIMAPTIKA. There are some activities that have been done by HIMAPTIKA. You can develop your creativity in HIMAPTIKA.

Second is English department, in this department you can study how to be an english teacher or a translation. English department also has students organization which is name ESA. ESA or English Students Association is association for english students to develop their creativity. ESA have some activities such as EDU (English Debate United), English Speaking, EAC (English Art Community).

The last is Literature and Bahasa Department, in this department you can study how to be a good teacher in Bahasa Indonesia. Bahasa department also has students association which is name HIMASATRIA. This association have some activities such as KAIL (Karya Ilmiah), Sogan Theater, GANDEWA, etc. You can study how to be a good writer in KAIL. You can study about theater in Sogan and you can develop your talent in literature in GANDEWA.

FKIP UNIKAL have many activities, not only study but also some activities that can develop your talent. So, you get many experience if you study in FKIP UNIKAL.

Laptop is Students' Friend

Usually, students need books, pen, eraser, drawing book, ruler and other things. In other words, in multimedia era, students need more goods to reach their dreams. Students need “keyboard mobile” to write every subject that is delivered by the teacher with very easy. Of course it needs more purchase, but it is good if we look at the function.

First, modern school sometimes use fast transfer knowledge because school need to catch the target of curriculum. Every subject is sometimes given in demonstrative method. The effect of that is students need more media to catch the subject. That’s why students need Laptop to be their media. Because there is a laptop in students’ desk, it can make the teacher easier to deliver the subject and it can make the students easier to understand more about the subject.

Second, use laptop in class make students more fun than they only sit in chair and listen to the teacher with books and pen. Laptop can give high interactive between students, teacher, and subject. For example, teacher told students to find the answer of the question about history or any subject use their laptop via online. It can make students do fast researching and use their creativity to find the answer than they must open page by page use books.

Third, use laptop can make they still remember about their tasks. If they have six or more class, it is easy for them to forget where they put their tasks and forget about it. If teacher distribute the tasks by digital, students can remember when they put their tasks in one folder. Use laptop is not only for the students but also for the teacher. It is easier for teacher to open their task by email or another digital system than collect it by paper. The other function is digital task can make students who doesn’t come to school collect their task even they are in long distance. It also easier to read the task which is typed than read the task which is hand writing.

For all of that, Laptop is really useful for students who want the best result for their study.

Pekalongan Book Fair 2016

Pekalongan – The office of Library and Archive of Pekalongan held Pekalongan Book Fair 2016 by presenting many cheap books. The head of Library and Archive office Pekalongan, Maryati SH MSi, said that the purpose of this event is to let the people who need book can buy books with low prices, there are a lot of discount up to 70%.

Pekalongan book fair this year is followed by dozens of booths in Gor Jatayu. This book fair will last for 7 days, beginning from Tuesday (12/4) until Monday (18/4). This exhibition is open to the public and free of charge, and also provided many gifts for the visitors.

The requirement is very easy, purchase of every book with certain nominal, visitors will get 1 coupon to be drawn when the last day of book fair.

“We provide cheap books for society of Pekalongan and around it, come take the advantages of this moment because this event comes only once a year. We hope it can make people of Pekalongan increase in interest reading.

This event is also supported with a variety of activities such as Young Dai Contest, Geguritan Contest, Hafidz Qur’an, Drawing, Colouring Contest and many more.

Why Forest Fire Happen

Forest fire is one of social phenomenon which influence and decrease the quality of soil. Some countries have been affected forest fire, one of them is Indonesia. This can happen intentional or unintentional. It can happen not only because of natural factor like the air that is very hot in summer, but also because of human error that doesn’t think about how important forest is.

There are some causes of forest fire. First is natural factor, it can happen because the air is very hot in summer, lightning strikes, or volcanic activity of the volcano. The second is human error, for example like throw the cigarette away or forget to put out the fire when they have camping activity. The last is to clean the agriculture land with burn it.

Forest fire is also give the effect. First of all is it can kill the animal, plants and trees that are live in the forest. The second is it can make bare forest. When forests are bare, it is easy to make a flood because there are no trees that can prevent rain water. Last but not least, it can increase breath infection and lung cancer especially for kids and adult.

Forest fire has so many effects especially for human. But, there are some ways that can be done to avoid forest fire. For the example like give the guidance about how important forest is. Then, forbid the activity of cleaning agriculture land with burning or give hard punishment to people when they do it. The last is don’t throw cigarette carelessly when you are in forest.

Pasir Kencana Beach

Pekalongan is the city that is located in Central Java. It is known as Batik City. Because it is known as Batik City, every year Pekalongan make some event like International Batik Week or National Batik Week. Many tourists visit Pekalongan to see that event. Pekalongan also has some tourism object, one of the tourism object in Pekalongan is Pasir Kencana Beach.

It is located in North Pekalongan. The location of the beach is not far from the city. It needs 10-15 minutes to go there. There are two ways to reach the beach. The first way is passing Senior High School 2 Pekalongan and the second way is passing Junior High School 1 Pekalongan. A few years ago, the second way is better than the first way. But now, both the way are easy to pass, because the road condition is better. For the entrance ticket, we only need to pay Rp.3000 each person and Rp.1000 for parking.

From the entrance gate, tourists can see some cartoon character or animal like Mickey Mouse, giraffe, and others in the left side. From the right side, tourists can see some animals like monkey, porcupine, snake, and others. We also can find a mosque for Muslim to pray. Then, after we park our motorcycle or car, we can see some trees that make the scenery around the beach look shady and beautiful. For the family, they can enjoy the beach by having picnic under the trees. It is so comfortable and can refresh our mind. If we feel hungry, there are some seller that sold food around the beach.

The next facility is a stage that is used to perform something like musical or others. Usually, in the new year or syawalan (Pekalongan tradition after one week Idul Fitri) this stage is used to hold some events like Dangdut Music, or another party. The other facilities are the playground. If you bring children, they can play in there. There are some toys in playground, like swing, and others.The children not only can play in the playground, but also they can play in the beach with their parents. Parents can teach the children how to make sand castle, fishing some fish or collecting some shells to decorate things. We can enjoy the beach with traditional boat. We only need to pay Rp.10.000 each person. Some teenagers sometimes enjoy the sunrise or sunset from the bridge. Although the condition of the bridge is little broken, but they still can enjoy the sunrise or sunset in there.

If we do not want to pay the entrance ticket, we still can enjoy the beach for free but there is no special facilities. In the afternoon, we can see some boys are playing football near the beach and we also can see some fisherman is fishing some fish. There is also a restaurant if you want to eat seafood. The famous restaurant in there is Ikan Bakar Wiroto. The other tourism object near Pasir Kencana Beach are Krematorium, Mangrove Park, and Large Aquarium that is located beside the harbour. In this place tourists can enjoy the scenery or doing some activity like fishing, sport beach, or just enjoy the air of the beach. Some people sometimes come to this object in Friday or Weekend.

Music

Everyone love music. Not only the young generation, but also the old generation. They can express their feeling by music. Music can be used to explain some subject in school to make the students more understand about the subject. For example from the movie “The Ron Clark Story” the teacher as known as Mr. Ron Clark use R&B music to explain about the history of America. It makes the students more understand about the history of America and make them happy because they can learn with singing and dancing. Music can be categorized into some criteria or genre, like Dangdut, Classic, Pop, Keroncong, etc.

Dangdut, is one of music genre that develop in Indonesia. First of all, this music is imitated from Melayu. Dangdut is not only imitated from Melayu but also from India by the song “Boneka India”. Now, Dangdut is influenced by the western culture. Like the use of electric guitar in the performance of Dangdut. Some of the singer of Dangdut use western music like the song “Pusing Pala Barbie” that is imitated from the song “All About That Bass”. This is the most interesting music in Indonesia. Indonesia have Rhoma Irama as the king of Dangdut and Elvi Sukaesih as the queen of Dangdut.

Classic is usually pointing to Eropa music. This genre has a wide definition, sometimes this music is pointing to music that is made from western tradition, Christian, and orchestra. Long time ago, this genre is only used in Christian, or the accompaniment of the king. But now, this genre is use to another event like orchestra or visual effect to the film.

Pop is the genre music that all generation like. The word Pop is from the word Popular. It means that music Pop is one of the popular music from modern era. This genre has a characteristic like the melody that is played is easy to practice in another lyrics, the lyrics is not hard to remember. But, this genre doesn’t have restrictions. So, sometimes music pop can be categorized as rock, hip hop, reggae, etc.

The last is Keroncong. Keroncong is the name of instrument that is used Ukulele, flute, and the woman singer. The root of this genre is from Portugis that is called Fudo. Fudo is used by the sailors from long time ago and borrowed to this country. Now, this music not only use Ukulele and Flute but also use Gamelan, the traditional musical instruments from Java. Although this genre is dims because of music Pop, but this genre still use and play by some generations in Indonesia.

There are so many types genre of music. Everyone have their own music characteristic and genre. Every genre has their strength, weakness, and trouble. Music can make the world more alive and without music this world is nothing.

True Love

Once upon a time in the Far Far Away kingdom, there were two family that called the Smiths and the Browns. The Smiths had a son, his name was Peter. The Browns had a daughter, her name was Rose. Peter and Rose knew each other because they were neighbour. They always play together as neighbour for twenty years old.

Unfortunately, Rose’s father made a great achievement that made their family must moved to Sweet Kingdom. For the first time, Peter and Rose said goodbye each other. After Rose gone, Peter promised to himself that he must worked hard so he could meet Rose again.

In their journey, it was rain. Rose looked at the rain and she was crying because she couldn’t see Peter anymore. Then she thought that there were must be a rainbow after rain. In other side, Peter looked for a job and then he worked hard to fulfil his promise to meet Rose again.

Five years later, Peter had mastered some skills and collected some money. He decided travelled to Sweet Kingdom to look for Rose. It was not hard to find Rose, because Rose had known as kind and beautiful princess. But, after he arrived in castle, the servant said that Rose didn’t want to meet him. Peter was so sad, but he still thought in positive that maybe Rose was busy so she couldn’t meet him now.

His aim to meet Rose didn’t wave, Peter found work as a waiter in the restaurant. Each day after he work, he visited Rose’s castle. But, Rose didn’t want to meet him again and again. Peter became sad and he was sick. His friend that named John, confused, because Peter’s ill become harder. Then, John decided went to Rose’s castle and met her.

“Don’t you know that Peter was here? He was sick now, he wanted to meet you.”

 “Yes I knew it, told him to meet me in the middle of the jungle tomorrow. There was a small hut.”

“Okay, I’d tell him.”

John came to Peter and told everything to him. Suddenly, Peter became healthy. Then, the following day, Peter went to the jungle. He found the small hut, and knocked it. Then, the old woman came out.

“was Rose in here?” ask Peter.

“No, Rose was in the castle. Did you Peter? The man that try to meet Rose in her castle?”

“Ya. How did you know me?”

“Rose told that. Rose said that if you love her and wanted to meet her, you must marry me first.” Said the old woman.

Peter was thinking, how could I marry the old woman if I didn’t love her? Then, he thought that it was okay, if it is the only way to meet Rose. So, he accepted the requirement. After she heard that, the old woman ran to the toilet. She washed her body, her face and her hair and her make up. She became a beautiful princess that named Rose. Peter was shocked because he didn’t knew that the old woman was Rose in her costume.

“I did it to make sure if your love was true or not. Because true love was hard to found. And I knew that you were really loved me, you did anything for me even if it was hard for you and I want to marry with you.”

Then, they lived happily ever after. Waiting was a sign of true love and patience. Anyone could say I love you, but not everyone could wait and prove it was true.

New Years Evening

Hi Icha

How are things? I’m very glad to read your last letter telling that you spent your holiday in Bali. You said that it was a wonderful holiday because your new year’s evening in Bali. Now, I want to tell you about my holiday, too.

Honestly, I didn’t go anywhere during my holiday. I just spent my day in Pekalongan, my hometown. But, in new years evening, it was a beutiful night for me.

Did you still remeber Irna, my best friend? She was back to Pekalongan in the end of December. We confused where should we go in new year’s evening, and if you still remember I never went out in new years evening. If I didn’t wrong, I had told you about David my new friend. I asked him, where did he go in new years evening and he said that he would gather with his friends in campus. And then, I asked him might I join them, and he said that we could join them. So, I decided to spent my new years evening with David and his friends.

At 7.00 pm, I was prepared to go to Irna’s aunt house. At 7.30 pm I went to Irna’s aunt house. I should arrive in Irna’s aunty house at 7.40 because the distance was not far. But you know? There was a traffic jam in Mataram Field, so I arrived in Irna’s aunt house at 8.00 pm. It was too late.

Before we went to campus, we bought some snacks. Because there was traffic jam, we arrived in campus at 8.30 pm. David was angry with me because I was late. I didn’t know if he had another plan with his classmate. After I knew that, I decided to go with Irna but David asked me to stay and he canceled his plan.

In campus, we spent our night with our new friends. I enjoyed every little things in that night. It was wonderful night for me because it was my first new years evening with my friends.

I hope that we can spend new years evening together next year. Can we?
